Former FBI Director, Robert S. Mueller III, who led as special counsel for the United States Department of Justice to investigate links between the Russian government and Donald Trump’s 2016 Presidential campaign has died at the age of 81. In August 2021 Mueller's family announced he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. No official cause of his death has been released yet.

Robert S. Mueller, III appears before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary to be confirmed as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC on July 30, 2001. If confirmed, Mueller will succeed Louis J. Freeh.
