The stone tomb of Otto the Great (912-973) in Magdeburg Cathedral is currently being renovated. Researchers had therefore examined the bones of the medieval ruler. The decisive proof that it was Otto I was provided by genetics. Archaeological analyses of the bones of Otto the Great and Henry II from Bamberg Cathedral proved that it was almost certainly Otto.
