Headline: Trumpeter swans return to traditional territory on Lake Tumulus in Germany

Caption:

Claudia Bachmann and Michael Kuboth from Cottbus Zoo hold a pair of trumpeter swans in their arms and sit on a vehicle. Cottbus Zoo and the Fürst-Pückler-Museum Park and Castle Branitz Foundation had brought two trumpeter swans back to Branitz Park on the same day. The animals had spent the frosty weeks in the zoo and are now returning to their traditional territory on Lake Tumulus. The female swan will be officially named "Lucie" on this occasion - in honor of Princess Lucie von Pückler, whose 250th birthday the foundation will celebrate in 2026 in the "Women's Kingdom" theme year. The two swans are considered a permanent breeding pair in Branitz and are now showing breeding behavior again. The zoo had temporarily taken them in during the frozen water areas. They are now set to return to Lake Tumulus in time for the start of the breeding season.
