New York City under severe blizzard, the first since 2017, affecting all five boroughs of city, with strong winds and heavy snow. It comes with sustained winds of 35 mph or more and with visibility of a 1/4 mile or less from blowing snow, and those conditions persisting for at least three hours and up to 4 inches of snow an hour at times. People are seen trying to clear out the snow from their streets, buildings' sidewalks and storefronts to make pathways while others have difficulty moving around including vehicles. The city’s Mayor, Zohran Mamdani declared a local state of emergency ahead of the expected severe snowstorm a day before, to ensure emergency responders and essential workers could move safely and quickly. The city streets were closed to non-essential vehicular traffic from 9 p.m. Sunday (22) to 12 p.m. Monday.
