A member of the 5th Operations Company of the Bundeswehr's Center for Operational Communications prepares a pile of flyers to be dropped from a helium balloon. Around 100 soldiers from Rhineland-Palatinate have been deployed to Upper Lusatia for the current "Colder Iron 2026" exercise. They are training the processes of tactical direct communication here. Exercise leaflets are dropped using helium balloons in pre-calculated target areas. In an emergency, these leaflets will be used to transmit important information to the people living there.
