Members of the 5th Operations Company of the Bundeswehr's Center for Operational Communications prepare helium balloons for dropping leaflets. Around 100 soldiers from Rhineland-Palatinate have been deployed to Upper Lusatia for the current "Colder Iron 2026" exercise. This is where the processes of tactical direct communication are being trained. Exercise leaflets are dropped using helium balloons in pre-calculated target areas. In an emergency, these leaflets will be used to transmit important information to the people living there.
