Rain falls as a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) catches and prepares to swallow a small rodent while hunting in a pasture along the Umpqua River near Elkton in southwestern Oregon. Recent storms have turned the river muddy, and the heron typically a fish hunter appears to have moved to higher ground in search of rodents instead.
