A few hours old lamb of the East Prussian Skudde stands on the Jacobswiese, a meadow orchard, very close to its mother. The Skudde is considered one of the oldest domestic sheep breeds in Europe - robust, frugal and at the same time highly endangered. Its place on the Red List of endangered livestock breeds makes every birth a small glimmer of hope. A few years ago, a meadow orchard was planted here directly on the Way of St. James - deliberately with old, almost forgotten varieties. It should not only delight pilgrims and walkers, but also contribute to the preservation of traditional fruit tree species.
