Following the announcement of the death sentence against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising, students and civilians gathered at Dhanmondi 32 in Dhaka. As they advanced toward her fathers residence, police and army personnel intervened to stop them. Confrontation broke out when the crowd was blocked by the security forces. To disperse the gathering, police fired tear gas and sound grenades.
