Headline: Steuben Day Parade In New York City

Caption:

The Steuben day Parade is held on the third Saturday in September in New York City as well as Chicago. The idea for the parade was thought out in 1957 by German immigrants and German-Americans as one of the largest ancestral groups living in the United States, who wanted to keep the traditions of their homeland alive. They named the Parade after Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben, a Prussian-born General who served under General George Washington in the American Revolutionary War. Steuben's training of the young American troops helped achieve victory against the British.
