Military musicians from the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force provided the ceremonial soundtrack for the national celebration of the Lionesses’ historic EURO 2025 victory in London 29/07/2025.
The event saw thousands of fans line The Mall for a procession culminating in a staged ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial.
The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth, under the direction of Captain Tre Naughton, played a central part throughout the day.
The band has only recently returned to the UK following a deployment to Thailand and Singapore, and their involvement began this morning with the Corps of Drums rehearsing their duty of escorting the trophy.
Later, the full 35-piece band, led by Drum Major David Nevatte, performed for the growing crowds near Horse Guards Parade before stepping off to lead the European champions down The Mall.
Their display of military pageantry featured classical marches such as ‘Royal Salute’ and ‘The Captain General’, providing a grand escort towards Buckingham Palace.
As the ceremony began at the Queen Victoria Memorial, The Central Band of the Royal Air Force took to the stage.
Directed by Flight Lieutenant Michael Parsons, the 35-personnel band performed a high-energy set to welcome the Lionesses for the official trophy lift.
The performance included football anthems ‘Three Lions’ and ‘Freed from Desire’, alongside the fan-favourite ‘Sweet Caroline’, ensuring a celebratory atmosphere for the thousands of supporters in attendance.
