Sitting on a tree planter at Miller Elementary School, Will Martinez, a Navy sailor, says he heard an explosion around 3:45 am, looked outside his window, and saw fire, and the sky was orange with smaller explosions going off, which he believes were vehicle fires. He quickly evacuated his family of six to a nearby chapel. Six were killed, and eight were injured when a small plane crashed into military homes in the Murphy Canyon neighborhood. The plane, a Cessna 550, crashed as it neared Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport around 3:45 a.m. Thursday.
