A necklace with the Star of David pendant decorates the neck of US deputy special envoy for the Middle East, Morgan Ortagus, during her meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in Beirut. The six-pointed Star of David is a common symbol for both Judaism and Israel and considered a symbol of offense in Lebanon and Arab countries. Ortagus arrived in Lebanon for talks with Lebanese leaders regarding the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire that was signed in November, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, and the disarmament of pro-Iranian Hezbollah. She is also expected to push for the beginning of talks between Israel and Lebanon on the demarcation of their border, currently marked by the blue line drawn by the United Nations in 2000.
