Hundreds of supporters of Mahmoud Khalil rally on Foley Square in New York on March 12, 2025. Mahmoud Khalil, lawful resident of the United States as Green Card holder and graduate of Columbia University was apprehended by ICE police and eventually moved to a detention center in Jena, Louisiana.

Mr. Khalil played a big role in pro-Palestinian protests at the university. Current administration revoked his student visa and subsequently his green card based on a provision of the State Department accusing Mr. Khalil to be a threat to the country.
