These images show recovery operations following the tragic air accident in which American Eagle Flight 5342 from Wichita, Kansas, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, collided mid-air with a US Army helicopter carrying three people near Reagan Washington National Airport on Wednesday night (29January2025).
Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, where a large-scale rescue operation has now turned into a recovery effort. Around 40 bodies have so far been pulled from the freezing waters. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that there are no survivors, with all 67 people having died in the crash.
Among those on board the passenger jet were American figure skaters, coaches, and family members who had been attending a training camp in Wichita, according to US Figure Skating.
