Headline: Last Of The Trafalgar Submarines HMS Triumph Takes Her Final Voyage

Caption:

HMS Triumph, the last of the Trafalgar Class submarines still in service has arrived at HMNB Devonport for the last time before her decommissioning.

The Boat gracefully transited across Plymouth Sound escorted by tugs boats and following-on craft from the Naval Base, after travelling down from HMNB Clyde submarine base in Scotland, where she had been operating from.

HMS Triumph was laid down at Barrow Shipyard in February 1987 and commissioned less than five years later in October 1991, the last of the seven Trafalgar class submarines constructed for the Royal Navy.

The current HMS Triumph is the tenth vessel and the second submarine to bear the name. The first Triumph was a 68-gun galleon built in 1561, and was the largest Ship built in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. A square-rigged galleon of four masts, she served as the flagship of Admiral Frobisher during the battles of the Spanish Amarda.
