Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg (21) holds a COP29 protest “Stop Greenwashing Genocide” outside of the UN Armenia office in Yerevan. Thunberg condemned the holding of the COP29 summit in Baku claiming that the international community has allowed Azerbaijan to “greenwash” ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh and other human rights abuses such as crimes against Armenians and “crackdown on civil society.” She arrived in Armenia on Wednesday November 13 from Georgia after she staged a protest outside the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tbilisi. Thunberg stated that countries which continue to buy Azerbaijani gas are accused of being complicit in crimes towards Armenians. “The ethnic cleansing that Azerbaijan is guilty of and the continuous extreme hardships that many Armenians are facing because of the Azerbaijani military aggression, the torture, forcible displacements, prisoners of war, hostages, extreme physical and psychological violence that people have experienced can in no way be justified. And the fact that the world remains silent and lets Azerbaijan greenwash these crimes is absolutely unacceptable,” Thunberg said.
