This terrifying footage shows the moment a driver crashed his truck into the Elks Lodge #2349 restaurant in Apache Junction, Arizona on Saturday night (07September2024), injuring 30 people.

The driver, identified by police as 73-year-old Thomas Edward Kain, was attempting to leave the lodge when his vehicle crashed into the building. Emergency personnel quickly arrived on the scene to assist those injured.

According to local police, 10 individuals were transported to multiple hospitals by ambulance, 15 others received treatment on-site for minor injuries, and five others drove themselves to local hospitals for medical evaluation. One person remains in critical but stable condition.
Kain has been charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault, 17 counts of endangerment, and DUI - slightest degree.

The police are awaiting blood tests to determine the severity of Kain’s alleged alcohol impairment, and additional charges may follow.

Police said: “This tragic event highlights the serious dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. Impaired driving drastically reduces reaction times, decision-making abilities, and motor skills, putting everyone on the road at risk. We are fortunate that, despite the severity of this incident, no lives were lost. However, the outcome could have been far worse.

“We urge all community members to make responsible choices. If you plan to drink, arrange for alternative transportation such as a designated driver, rideshare, or public transport. Encourage your friends and family to do the same, and never hesitate to step in if someone you know is considering driving while impaired.”
