Maximilian Schall, project manager and doctoral student at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), stands in front of the gorilla enclosure with a wildlife camera during the presentation of an artificial intelligence-based research project by HPI and the Berlin Zoological Garden. HPI students have developed a model that uses AI to distinguish and recognize individual gorillas, allowing conclusions to be drawn about their behavioral patterns. Cameras have been installed in the gorillas' outdoor enclosure that can recognize individual gorillas. This "gorilla tracker" will later be used to observe the behavior of gorilla groups in their natural habitat.
