Hollywood superstar Salma Hayek Pinault was among the torchbearers as the Olympic Flame travelled to the opulent Palace of Versailles on Tuesday (23July2024).
The day saw 175 torchbearers, including renowned sports figures and celebrities, come together to celebrate this momentous occasion.
Salma took the flame through Versailles' gilded interior - including its famed Hall of Mirrors - usually reserved for official ceremonies of the French Republic.
Ahead of carrying the torch, Salma, who is married to French luxury goods billionaire, François-Henri Pinault, wrote on Instagram that she was. “Feeling the excitement and unity the Olympics brings.”
Built, like much of modern Versailles by Louis XIV, who expanded his father’s hunting lodge and residence into Europe’s most impressive residence, the Hall of Mirrors contains more than 350 individual mirrored surfaces and much priceless art.
The day's events also featured a football relay at France’s national football centre at Clairefontaine. It was led by France’s 2018 World Cup-winning manager Didier Deschamps.
A golf relay was also held at Le Golf National in Guyancourt - the course that hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup and will host the Olympic golf events. It was captained by French major winner Patricia Meunier-Lebouc.
The Olympic Torch Relay will continue its journey until reaching the Stade De France for the opening ceremony on Friday 27 July 2024 - when the Paris 2024 games will officially be declared open.
