The fire grew to over 2,000 acres and forced many evacuations. In response, the City of Oroville has declared a local emergency. Approximately 28,000 residents have been forced to evacuate as the Thompson fire has quickly spread across more than 3,000 acres near the city of Oroville, about an hour outside Sacramento.
