Butte County Sheriff's Office emergency managers set up a unified command with CAL FIRE and local police enforcement partners to coordinate a response of areas needing to be evacuated during the Thompson Fire in Oroville on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Approximately 28,000 residents have been forced to evacuate as the Thompson fire has quickly spread across more than 3,000 acres near the city of Oroville, about an hour outside Sacramento.
