One of those celebrating sits on top of a stone as the warm light of the setting sun illuminates her and others amongst the stones at Stonehenge. Stonehenge was built by early Britons some 4000 years ago to align with the sun on the solstices. The summer solstice marks the end of Spring and the start of Summer and is the longest day and the shortest night in the Northern Hemisphere. The event is celebrated by thousands of pagans worldwide with singing and dancing.
