Headline: Newly Released Images Show Fire On Ship Hit By Houthi Missile In January

Caption: These newly released images show the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Carney (DDG 64) responding to a fire aboard the M/V Marlin Luanda, on 27 January 2024. The Marlin Luanda was hit by a missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The US and UK have launched air strikes on Houthi targets in response to the attack and other similar ones on ships in the Red Sea region. French, and Indian naval ships also provided assistance to the vessel. UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps called the attack on the British-linked ship "intolerable and illegal." "It is our duty to protect freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and we remain as committed to that cause as ever," he wrote on X. The registered operator of the Marlin Luanda was Oceonix Services Ltd, a UK registered company. The tanker flies under the Marshall Islands flag and is operated on behalf of the multinational trading company Trafigura. As a part of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, Carney is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations to help ensure maritime security and stability in the Middle East region.
