Water flows into the Kalte Bode at the bottom outlet of the Mandelholz dam. Rain and meltwater have filled the Mandelholz reservoir near Elend. The dam serves as a flood protection basin for the Kalte Bode. The dammed-up water is currently being drained in a controlled manner. Up to 95 cubic meters of water flow into the cold Bode every second, creating a tremendous natural spectacle.
