Headline: More Than A Million Gallons Of Oil Spills In Gulf Of Mexico

Caption: The U.S. Coast Guard is hunting for the source of a leak of more than a million gallons of oil from an underwater pipeline off the Louisiana coast in the Gulf of Mexico. The 67-mile long pipeline was closed by Main Pass Oil Gathering Co (MPOG) on Thursday (16November2023) morning, after crude oil was spotted around 19 miles offshore of the Mississippi River Delta, near Plaquemines Parish, southeast of New Orleans. Although officials said the volume of discharged oil is currently unknown, initial engineering calculations indicate the potential volume of crude oil that could have been released from the affected pipeline is 1.1 million gallons. The Coast Guard continues to oversee the coordinated effort to mitigate the impact of the oil discharge.
