Italian firefighters helped with rescue operations in Derna which were hit by the floodwater when the Wadi Derna dam collapsed last week. Locals now call Wadi Derna “the dam of death”. At a moment’s notice, the structure collapsed and sent tens of millions of cubic meters of floodwater towards Derna’s residents. Entire homes and families were swept away into the Mediterranean. At least 11,300 people have died and another 10,100 are missing, according to reports.
