As of Tuesday morning, 18 people had died in the strike, which the Ukrainian Air Force says came from Kh-22 missiles launched by Russian Tu-22M3 bombers, while 59 people needed medical help, 25 of whom were hospitalised in the local hospital’s intensive care unit, according to officials from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. Search and rescue operations continued throughout Monday evening and overnight, and into Tuesday morning, with emergency service workers continuing the dismantling of damaged building structures with the help of heavy engineering equipment. Following the attack, Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel, “The occupiers fired rockets at the mall, where there were more than a thousand civilians. The mall is on fire, rescuers are fighting the fire, the number of victims is impossible to imagine. "No danger to the Russian army. No strategic value. Only the attempt of people to live a normal life, which so angers the occupiers. "Russia continues to place its powerlessness on ordinary citizens. It is useless to hope for adequacy and humanity on her part.” He later called the strike an act of terror. Kremenchuk’s mayor, Vitaly Maletsky, also wrote on Facebook: “The rocket strike on Kremenchuk came in a very crowded place, which is 100% nothing to do with military action. There are dead and injured. THE RUSSIANS WILL BURN IN HELL! Together with all relevant services, I am at the scene of the tragedy.” The attack came the day after an apartment building in Kyiv’s top floors were destroyed by another Russian missile strike.
