Headline: Tbilisi Mural Fest Showcases Stunning Building-Sized Artworks

Caption: Founded in 2019, Tbilisi Mural Fest and running again this autmn (21) Tbilisi Mural Fest allows top artists to create stunning murals on buildings across the Georgian capital. The artists’ work appears against the stunning backdrop of Tbilisi’s post-soviet skyline, transforming the city into a giant public exhibition of contemporary street art. The 2021 festival, which ran from 5 September to 5 October, featured nine pieces with a wide range of aesthetics and subjects addressing environmental and social issues, including a mythological, black-and-white stencil by MonkeyBird, an artist from France, botanicals by Brazil’s Thiago Mazza , and a trompe-l’œil papercut by 1010 of Germany. This image shows MonkeyBird's mythological stencil design. Sightseers have been able to enjoy their work and interact with artists at public events, such as workshops and podium discussions. Other artists exhibiting include FAITH47 (South Africa), JDL (Holland), APHE (Germany), NOAH (Germany), KADE 90 (Georgia), and local artist David Samkharadze. According to Festival founder Besik Maziashvili, 33 murals have been created for the festival since 2019, creating an open exhibition at different locations. It will be continued annually in the hope of showcasing Tbilisi and inspiring local artists.
