An aircraft is washed every 180 days to prevent corrosion and prolong the lifespan of the airframe. The new machine can do in one hour what it typically takes a team of three to four people two days to do. The robot is a one-of-a-kind machine built, programmed and tested at the 149th as a proof of concept for the Air Force. The system is part of an AFWERKX innovation initiative as a proof of concept to potentially be rolled out across the Air Force. AFWERX is a United States Air Force program with the goal of fostering a culture of innovation within the service.
