Headline: Traditional Welsh Folk Dancers Pictured For St. David's Day, Wales, UK

Caption: THIS PICTURE: Luned Defis Portraits of two families, who are traditional Welsh folk dancers, have been taken for St Davids Day. The iconic clothing which is identified as the ‘Welsh National Costume’, is based on the rural working population from the late eighteenth century and is a hugely important element to Welsh folk dancing. Today, the colourful fabric worn by these dancers are woven at traditional woollen mills in Wales. The costume for women consists of a gown and petticoat with neckerchief, white cap and hat. During lockdown, these dancers, like all performing artists, haven’t been able to perform to an audience, however, are looking forward to performing on stage again soon. In these images (please refer to the family group shot) is Esther Defis (Left), Luned Defis, Nerys Defis, Aron Davies (Right), Leah Gwen Defis (Bottom). Nery’s and her daughters costumes are made at Melin Teifi. The team the family dance for is Dawnswyr Talog. *Please note surnames are spelt correctly. Male and female surnames for the same family are sometimes spelt differently in Welsh.
