Headline: Asda Partners With Britain’s Oldest Twins To Share Timeless Cooking Tips With The Nation

Caption: Despite the world living, learning and finding inspiration online more than ever, new research by Asda has revealed over three quarters of Brits (76%) would rather use recipes handed down from grandparents than turn to cookbooks or social media. The survey of over 2000 Brits found that 7 in 10 (70%) learnt cooking skills from their grandparents. While the younger generations can enjoy a world of cuisines and experiences, 30% of millennials (18-34-year olds) would still rather go to their grandparents’ house to get a good meal, rather than a friend’s house (12%) or the pub (12%). A Sunday Roast (46%), followed by homemade cakes (26%) and cottage pie (21%) were the most-loved dishes cooked by grandparents. In fact, they are so loved that 74% wish they could recreate the dishes in the exact same way, with 14% even claiming their grandparents could beat Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver in a cook-off. Showing commitment to carrying on the tradition, 80% of Brits want to teach and pass down recipes to their grandchildren when the time comes. With 75% of Brits wishing they had written down their grandparent's recipes, Asda has partnered with Britain’s oldest twins, Lil Cox and Doris Hobday to share their most timeless cooking tips with the nation. The 96-year-old Tipton Twins, who have been creating classic recipes on a budget for over half a century, said: “The younger members of our family have been after our cooking tips for years. After living through a World War, and juggling all that life throws at you, we also know a thing or two about stretching a budget and feeding a family. We’re so excited to share our top tips with Asda customers to help get the most out of their weekly shop.” As loyal customers to the Asda Great Bridge store for over 20 years, the Tipton twins have shared their Timeless Food Tips to help customers maximise their favourite dishes and get the most bang for their buck: 1. Don’t be Salty: If you’ve over-salted a sauce or soup – the humble uncooked potato can save you! Cut it in half, throw it in your pot and it’ll help suck out the salt. 2. Bacon Me Crazy: To enhance an English breakfast staple, add a pinch of flour. It makes it extra crispy and stops it shrinking. 3. Butter me up: To avoid pasta sticking to the pan, pop a teaspoon of butter into the boiling water. The spaghetti won’t stick. 4. Bready, steady, go!: If your bread - even a baguette – has gone a little tough, sprinkle a few tablespoons of water over it then pop it in the oven. You’ll re-hydrate the bread and have a good-as-new loaf in minutes. 5. Smart Cookie: To avoid fresh cookies going stale, put them in a container with a slice of fresh bread. The cookies will stay fresh and soft and the bread will go hard instead. An Asda spokesperson said: “It’s great to see that even today filled with technology, social media and celebrity cookbooks, Brits are still as enthusiastic as ever about cooking knowledge passed down through generations. With over 192 years of life experience between them, Lil and Doris are a great example of how you can tap into rich family history to get the most out of your food shop. The great news for customers is that Lil and Doris’s Timeless Tips will add extra value to a weekly shop, help enhance some favourite household ingredients, and make sure nothing goes to waste in these challenging times.” The Tipton’s Timeless Tips form part of Asda’s ‘Tap Tap Talks’ series, launched in celebration of Asda bringing its famous ‘pocket tap’ back to screens. Designed to arm the nation with money-saving tips and food tricks in collaboration with experts across food, fashion and home, customers can tune into the series throughout October by following @Asda on Instagram.
