Headline: London Zoo Animals Enjoy Bubbles To Celebrate Doubling Of Donations By Benefactor

Caption: The animals at London Zoo were today (August 10th) treated to some playful enrichment using bubbles this week to celebrate news of the ‘double bubble’ gift to help secure the future of the zoos. A generous gift to ZSL (Zoological Society of London) will match every donation made to the troubled charity during August and September. From Monday August 10th every penny raised towards ZSL and its zoos will be doubled by the Scheinberg Relief Fund, up to a total of £500,000 matched. The conservation charity has been hit hard by the closure of its two zoos – London and Whipsnade – during coronavirus lockdown, standing to make losses of more than £20m by the end of the financial year. A TV campaign backed by Sir David Attenborough has already raised over £3m in donations – but the zoos are still in dire need of further support. It costs around £1m each month just to feed and care for the zoos’ 22,000 animals. Fundraising Director James Wren said: “It is heart-warming to see the response from the public in supporting us during this very challenging time. I hope the generous support from the Scheinberg Relief Fund inspires more people to donate to help us stay open and continue our global conservation work.” The Scheinberg Relief Fund has been established by Mark Scheinberg and family to support organisations and initiatives that are tackling the direct impact of the virus, including on the welfare of animals. Donations to ZSL will be doubled between August 10th 2020 and September 15th 2020.
