Headline: U.S. Army Corps Searches For Facilities That Could Be Used To Treat Covid-19 Patients

Caption: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has received a mission assignment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for planning and site assessments of Alternate Care Facilities in California in response to COVID-19. Engineers and emergency management specialists with the USACE Los Angeles District along with state and local officials were in San Diego County, March 29. The team conducted a site assessment of a building in the county for potential use as an Alternate Care Facility, should the need arise, for additional medical facilities in the county. Under the planning mission assignment, USACE Team Leaders are providing planning and assessments for the possible conversion of existing buildings into Alternate Care Facilities. The LA District is assisting the state and FEMA’s efforts with initial facility assessments at several Southern California locations.
