STORY CAPTION: Confined to his garden in Teignmouth, Devon, a photographer has taken some stunning images of the International Space Station and Space X Starlink satellites from his garden. John Baker explains: “With a large number of people stuck at home, there is not a lot of opportunity to photograph anything interesting or exciting, however, I have been taking some quite fun pictures this evening of the International Space Station and the Space X – Starlink satellites from my garden. “Both the ISS and Space X are easily visible to the naked eye, they are always of great interest to children as well as many adults. Passes have been visible just after dark or before sunrise. “The really new images for me are of Elon Musk’s Space X/Starlink, these appear as a train of satellites passing across the sky. Tonight there were close to 40 satellites in one group. The satellites are to be used to provide internet access with initial plans for 12,000 units, with a possible increase to 42,000 planned for the future! There are two groups of images: Two are composite shots of the ISS passing over Teignmouth in Devon. Each shot is made up of a number of 30 second exposures and then put together to give a single path across the sky. Also visible in the shots are the Moon, Venus and the Orion constellation. The rest of the shots are single images, taken at various exposures (20 seconds to 8 seconds) showing the swarm of satellites passing across the sky.
