Caption: Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists block the entrance to The Banks Group open cast mine at Bradley near Dipton, County Durham. Some of the protesters caged themselves in birdcages to block the entrance in opposition of plans to extend the mine. Durham County Council has received more than 5,500 objections to the plan, many on environmental grounds. The Banks Group said the protesters were "ill-informed" and "exacerbating the problem they are looking to solve".
