Headline: Extraordinary Moment Orangutan Reached Out To Help

Caption: Amateur photographer Anil Prabhakar captured the extraordinary moment that an orangutan reached out to a forest warden in the wilds of Borneo. While on a safari with friends, Anil Prabhakar stumbled upon a forest warden wading in the river. What happened next is certainly an unusual sight; seemingly worried for his safety perhaps, orangutan Anih reached out for the ranger, almost as if she wanted to rescue him. Taken at the Samboja Lestari Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in East Kalimantan, a forested haven for orangutans that can’t yet be released into the wild, the picture shows Syahrul, BOSF technician in fact clearing the river of grasses and excess sedimentation. Why Anih reached out to him is not entirely clear but a spokesperson for the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation told Cover Images: “Anih and Syahrul have known each other for a long time, from the early 1990s. “In this photo, we will never know exactly what happened. “Anih may have looked like she was offering to help Syahrul - however, Anih could very easily could have been asking for food from Syahrul, as she and some other orangutans here, are still dependent on humans.” Whatever the reason it’s still extraordinary to see such close interaction between a human and this endearing creature. On the response to the picture, Dr. Jamartin Sihite, CEO of the BOS foundation, commented: "We are very pleased to see the positive response from the public towards this 'viral' photo. “Seeing this, we are left wondering how wild animals can be even friendlier to humans than we are to them. “However, they belong in their habitat, not with us. “By protecting their habitat, we help to preserve and maintain the balance of nature.” “These islands for orangutans are limited access, to prevent contact between humans and orangutans, with limited exceptions being made for medical treatment carried out by veterinarians. “Only BOSF staff and related agencies with special permits can enter t
