Caption: *NOTE* There are seven known strains of human coronaviruses – these are previously known examples. These picture do not show the Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV , China Virus). PICTURE SHOWS: Produced by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), in collaboration with Colorado State University, this highly magnified, digitally colorized scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image, reveals ultrastructural details at the site of interaction of two spherical shaped, Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) viral particles, colorized blue, that were on the surface of a camel epithelial cell, colorized red. STORY: Novel coronavirus, denoted 2019-nCoV by the WHO and also known as Wuhan coronavirus, Wuhan seafood market pneumonia virus and Wuhan pneumonia, is a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA coronavirus first reported in 2019. The virus was genomically sequenced after nucleic acid testing on a positive patient sample in a patient with pneumonia during the 2019–2020 Wuhan pneumonia outbreak. On 20 January 2020, human-to-human transmission was confirmed in Guangdong province, China, according to Zhong Nanshan, head of the health commission team investigating the outbreak.[7] No specific treatment for the new virus is currently available, but existing anti-virals could be repurposed. The virus has spread to Bangkok, Tokyo, South Korea, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong Province, Taiwan, and Washington State in the United States.
