Caption: A professor has painted his observatory to look like R2D2 from Star Wars. Dr. Hubert Zitt, from the German University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern, transformed the Zweibrücken Observatory of the Natural Science Association. The sci-fi loving prof worked with his father-in-law and several students to finish the project. The oversized droid has even caught the eye of Luke Skywalker himself, with actor Mark Hamill announcing online "R2-D2 Observatory Transformed Germans Into Giant Nerds". Dr. Zitt, who lives in Niederwürzbach, tells Cover Images: "I'm a science fiction fan since I was a kid. And since 1996 I give presentations about Star Trek and Star Wars. "Our observatory looked like an R2-D2 even before we began to paint it in 2018. So I came up with the idea to paint it like an R2-D2." In addition to his teaching, Dr. Zitt has made a name for himself as a non-fiction writer in the fields of telephone technology , ISDN and DSL . He is also known throughout Germany as a lecturer by his Star Trek lectures. He held his first lecture on physics and technology at Star Trek in 1996 as a Christmas lecture at the University of Applied Sciences in Zweibrücken. Since 2005, he has held Star Trek lectures in other cities, both at universities and industry conferences, and at science fiction conventions such as FedCon , Europe's largest science fiction convention.
