Headline: Scottish Hare Makes Hilarious Facial Expressions
Caption:
A wildlife photographer captured a Scottish hare making a series of hilarious facial expressions.
Karen Miller spent an amazing FIVE hours this month (July) documenting the hare sticking its tongue out, showing its teeth, putting its paw to its head, and appearing to laugh.
Karen, from Glasgow, explains: “The photographs were taken over a 5 hour period on Sunday 21 July at an undisclosed location in the Scottish Highlands.
“Photographing mountain hares in the summer is tricky, much more so than in the winter even for experienced hare photographers such as myself. In their brown summer pelage (coat) they are almost impossible to see as they hunker down in the heather and if you do spot one and try and approach they are more than likely to run. However, I love the hares at all times of year and visit them whenever I can - I like a challenge!
“On this occasion I came across this hare sitting on a hillock above me on the mountainside. Expecting it to scarper, I sat a fair distance away to gain its trust and over time edged closer, taking a few photographs as I approached. Amazingly, the hare remained in the same spot and for the next 5 hours groomed, snoozed and stretched as I sat a short distance away. The hares have the most wonderful facial expressions which is one of the reasons I love spending time with them. It's a real privilege.”
