But his rescuer had a surprise after a few weeks of care - Cotton opened his eyes to reveal stunning differently coloured eyes: one blue, one hazel. Carmen Weinberg had treated the stray after a man had found him in distress in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. After several months of care, six-year-old Cotton was a healthy, transformed cat with gleaming white fur. Carmen, founder of Florida-based Animal Friends Project, received many applications to home him, but ultimately decided she didn't want Cotton to go through any more big changes. She explains: "The man said the cat came out of nowhere and started eating from a bowl of food he was trying to give to his cat. He said Cotton was very hungry. He was able to put in a cat carrier and posted for help. It was late and nobody was able to pick up Cotton but he was safe in carrier. "I went to pick Cotton up and took him directly to he vet. Cotton had a severe case of mange and was very dehydrated, anemic and very skinny. We discovered Cotton was friendly. He started purring when the vet examined him. Cotton got Ivermectin, fluids, an antibiotic and ointment for his eyes and I was instructed to give him small meals, various times a day. Fortunately, I had a bathroom to quarantine Cotton. A friend had helped me place for adoption a mommy cat that I had in that bathroom and it was empty at the moment. "It is incredible how much Cotton had improved after an initial dose of Ivermectin, coconut oil over crusty stuff and a bath with medicated shampoo. He started to open his eyes. He received fluids a second time and I was giving him wet food every 2-3 hours. His ears were very irritated when the scabs came off but they became light pink and even had little hairs. Such a precious boy." Carmen told Dodo: “If I go into another room, he waits outside the door talking. He sleeps with me, he stays by my side all of the time.
