Headline: Aircraft-Influenced Electric Personal Hydrofoil Launched

Caption: An electric personal hydrofoil influenced by aircraft design has been launched. The Waydoo Flyer, unveiled this week (9 Jan), is an innovative board that borrows technology from the design of fixed-wing aircrafts in order to make learning to surf easier than ever before. Waydoo Flyer does not require waves; users can ride on any water surface, any time. It’s also highly portable, and offers easy assemble with only two screws needed to mount the hydrofoil to the main board. The board is powered by a 6000W brushless power motor and reaches a top speed of 35 km/h. It uses 18650 lithium batteries, like those used in Tesla vehicles, to guarantee a smooth riding experience for 40-60 minutes from a single charge. Shenzhen based technology company, Waydoo will unveil a prototype of its namesake electric hydrofoil (eFoil) board at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It will begin commercial distribution in March 2019 and will retail for USD $7,999. The company explain: "The affordable and beginner-friendly eFoil board lets users glide above any water surface without the need for waves. The board’s handheld controller allows users to personalise their experience via two modes. Its unique “rookie mode” offers automated settings to cut down on learning time for beginners. “Advanced mode” lets experienced riders control speed, height adjustment, and posture change." “Learning to surf is challenging. It’s expensive, requires perfect waves, and can be very time-consuming. We wanted to create a board that would address these barriers and make surfing accessible to anyone,” said Waydoo Founder Dennis Zhu.“Our Waydoo Flyer allows anyone to experience the excitement of surfing anywhere, any time.” While most eFoil boards on the market are developed by surfboard manufacturers, Waydoo’s team is inspired by extensive experience in drone aircraft technology. Prior to founding Waydoo, the company’s Founder Dennis Zhu managed one of China’s leading agricultural drone companies, TXA UAV. With Waydoo, he merges his long-time passion for building aircrafts with his love for surfing. The technology and principles of the board’s flow rate and density, fluid mechanics and motor control are all derived from fixed-wing drones airplanes, offering a unique experience. “With Waydoo, I’ve merged my long-time passion for building state of the art aircrafts and my love for surfing. It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to share it with thousands of people at CES,” said Zhu.
