Headline: Father and Son, 11, Capture Moment Giraffe Gives Birth

Caption: (VIDEO AVAILABLE: info@cover-images.com) A father and son captured the stunning scenes when a giraffe gave birth.. Paul Goldstein and 11-year-old Joshua, from Wimbledon, watched the heart-stopping moment the female had her calf in the heart of Kenya's Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Despite decades of wildlife photography experience, this was the first time Exodus Travels (www.exodus.co.uk) guide Paul had witnessed a giraffe birth. Joshua and Paul's amazing pictures document the jaw-dropping event. Mum Donna was also on hand to shoot a video of the scene. He explains: "It was the middle of a very hot morning and both myself and my friend and guide Nelson Kasoe noticed this mother behaving oddly. Once we spotted the feet sticking from her we turned off the engine and waited. "The whole episode lasted a couple of hours. There was no ante natal class, elective C or post birth classes and nannies involved and within 27 minutes of hitting the ground the infant took its first tentative steps. "At this age a Bambi-like giraffe is very vulnerable, particularly to lions, hyenas and leopards. It was both humbling and invigorating as giraffe numbers have declined so any additions are welcome. The tenderness shown by the mother and indeed aunts and cousins coming to poke their necks in was both touching and fascinating. "The calf is currently doing well, it will take me a few more days to recover!" Paul adds: "Joshua loves the Mara Conservancies where he has many Maasai friends. His first nights under canvas in the bush were at eight months. Leopards are his favourite predators." Presenter, photographer, writer and guide Paul Goldstein co-owns Kicheche Camps (www.kicheche.com) in Kenya and in November is lecturing 'An even wilder night out' with the BBC's Chris Packham in London, Dorking, Buxton and Cheltenham: https://www.exodus.co.uk/wilder-night-out
