Caption: A town has received complaints after reports of "crack pipe" vending machines appearing in streets. Officials in Brookhaven, New York, say residents were alarmed after the discovery of a vending machine in the public right-of-way in front of the Coram Commons shopping center. After inserting $2 the machines offered clear, glass pipes and filters required to smoke crack. The Town took immediate action and removed the vending machine, which has been turned over to the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD). A second machine was discovered in Coram and it was also due to be removed. In a press conference Tuesday (11 Sep), Councilman Michael Loguercio said: "On Friday evening, I received a call from the Assistant Chief of the Middle Island Fire Department, Matthew Gropper, with regard to what appeared to be crack pipe dispensers, disguised as pen dispensers. We immediately notified the authorities and the investigation began."
