As one of the biggest international photography competitions, the B&W Child Photo Competition receives entries from talented photographers across the globe. The contest invites these creatives to enter their submissions into any of the four different categories available - Portrait, Lifestyle, Fine Art, and Documentary & Street. Chosen from many captivating children’s portraits, UK-based photographer Lee Jeffries won first prize for his portrait titled Zephyr, featuring an up-close shot of a freckle-faced boy. The powerful image manages to capture the innocence of youth, yet at the same time suggest the subject’s inner struggle. In the Fine Art category, Russian photographer Natalia Matafonova was awarded 1st place for her image titled Grandmother’s Hands. The photo captures the nostalgic childhood moment of having your hair braided. UK-based photographer Caroline Therese Hodge won 1st place in the Lifestyle category for her photo, The Embrace. The heart-warming image captures the relationship between a child and his pet cat, who’s patiently enduring a bedtime cuddle. In the Documentary & Street category, Czech Republic-based Marcel Kolacek was awarded 1st place for his photo titled, Beauty Salon in which a toddler is seen waiting outside a makeshift hair salon while her mother chats in the doorway. The second half of the B&W Child 2018 Photo Competition is now open for submissions. Winners will be revealed in February 2019.
