Headline: Family Of Six Make New Life - In An Amazing School Bus

Caption: A family of six have made a new life - living in a school bus. Debbie Mayes, 33, and husband Gabriel, 35, decided to move themselves and their four children (Gracen, Darby, Deacon, Jovey) full-time into the living space on wheels. Thankfully, the vehicle has been transformed from a "rust-bucket" yellow American 'skoolie' into an incredibly stylish home. The self-styled "Mayes Team" have now driven it almost 2,500 miles from Chicago to the west coast of America. The couple explain: "We had accumulated all the "stuff" a family could want (big home, cars, lots of "friends" and yadayada). We had gotten to a place where we were miserable, frustrated, disconnected and we knew that we needed change in every area of our life. So what did we do? We sold most of our stuff and moved out of our 5000 sq. ft house. We did what any normal family would do: we bought a friggin' school bus to live in. "We purchased our original bus for the school bus conversion in February of 2017 and shortly after discovered that it was a rust-bucket. At the time, we didn’t know anything about school buses or conversions so we relied heavily on the company we hired to guide us through the process of purchasing our next bus in March. We quickly began drawing up plans and downsizing our lifestyle. And before we knew it we were picking our bus up on July 22nd, 2017. "In August of 2017 we moved all four kids in and began the insane journey west towards the coast. Mountains, beaches, rivers and deserts? Yes please!" The 2000 Thomas High Top has 250 sq. ft of living space, and comes complete with a roof deck, full kitchen and can sleep 8. Currently settled, the family - with children aged from 18 months to 10 years old - hint that their adventure is not yet over. "We travelled across the country and landed on the west coast in Northern California where we currently have our kids in school. We have huge travel plans coming up," they say.
