Headline: Mother's Day Wildlife by Paul Goldstein

Caption: PICTURE SHOWS: Cheetah cubs play near their mother, Masai Mara, Kenya .............. MOTHER'S PRIDE In honour of Mother's Day, one of the UK's most reknowned wildlife photographer's shares some of his favourite images of mothers with their young. Wimbledon-based Paul Goldstein, a guide for Exodus Travels, has spent decades documenting the interplay of families in the wild. Highlights include a cheetah mum being licked by her three cubs, a gorilla infant nestled in its mother's fur, and a stunning picture of an elephant and calf on the Masai Mara. Paul explains: "It is fascinating to watch: when the youngsters are just out of the den the mothers are very protective but as they get older they have to be given some latitude and it is captivating watching those cubs push the rules. In many areas of Africa due to human encroachment and other predators, to say nothing of the despicable disease of poaching, it is very tough for a mother to raise a cub or litter to adulthood so I like the way the rangers in Rwanda never name an animal until it is a year old." Paul adds: "They are not human and should not be viewed as such, however, many of their characteristics are similar, which make them such intoxicating subjects. Spare a thought for the endangered ones this mother’s day." PLEASE INCLUDE: Paul works for adventure travel specialists Exodus (www.exodus.co.uk) and co-owns four Kicheche camps (www.kicheche.com) in Kenya. (Live hyperlinks if possible)
