Headline: Photographer Captures Kingfisher Fishing

Caption: It required expert timing - and a bit of guesswork - to capture these stunning pictures of a kingfisher. Photographer Neil Armstrong spent hours by a riverbank trying to get shots of the brightly-coloured bird on Saturday (18 Mar) near Kirkcudbright in Scotland. He explains: "The images were taken from a hide, but the problem with catching the dive was trying to time it right as they were so fast hitting the water. I gauged when it was ready to dive as it would show keen interest in the water much more often. "You had to click as soon as she left the perch, but on continuous mode or burst so out of maybe six shots you would maybe get. One or two shots but coming out of the water was more difficult as you never knew when she was going to appear, so basically you kept clicking from leaving the perch until the Kingy appeared. "She was very unpredictable when she would appear; at the very most I waited over 90 minutes."
