Headline: Stay On Your Own Castaway Island Only Reachable By Boat

Caption: Have you ever felt like being a castaway on a remote desert island? No, neither have we, but the remote island part sounds nice. A Vietnamese architecture firm are aiming to reclaim the word 'castaway' to make you associate it with relaxation by creating a castaway island resort. Only accessible via a two-hour boat trip through the iconic cliffs of Ha Long Bay, you can find the Vietnam Castaway resort on a private beach in Lan Ha Gulf. The tropical and off-the-beaten track location is an unspoilt backdrop for the series of five huts, a restaurant and a pavilion. The use of bamboo is demonstrated through the thatched, curving roof constructed from ‘tam vong’ bamboo. Using traditional Vietnamese methods such as soaking the bamboo in mud and then being smoked, this thin construction material only measures at 40-50mm in diameter and is tied together with rope. Each of the 13 bamboo shell units are composed of 80 straight bamboos, creating an undulating and rhythmical roof landscape. Despite the isolated location, the island is seen by the frequent boats cruising past each day. The island resort will accommodate around 160 people at a time and is due to be completed this Summer (17).
