Caption: PICTURE SHOWS: 2015 winners ....... Now there's cool, and then there's really cool, and then there's this guy who won the International Hair Freezing Contest this week. Pierre-Michel Jean-Louis looked in an advanced state of chill - with frozen afro and sunglasses - as he meditated on his victory. The event is held at Takhini Hot Pools, at Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon territory - where current temperatures are hovering around -8C. Thankfully, the natural hot springs mineral water is a reviving 47 degrees celsius - so only the body parts that protrude from the water get freezy. Andrew Umbrich and Lauren O’Coffey, owners of Takhini Hot Pools, told Cover Images: "Originally, we had only planned on having three winners, however, after we received all the submissions we had a hard time picking only three. In the end, we decided to add a fourth-place prize." Those winners include Alex Jegier, who is seen with his long hair frozen solid in an icy spike. The hair freezing contest has not always been so popular, there were fewer than 30 submissions from 2011 to 2015. In the winter of 2016 and 2017, Umbrich states he received 40 submissions. “We received more submissions this year than we did all the other years combined. This has been the best year yet for our competition and we look forward to adding some new prize categories to encourage participation in the following years.” We hope Pierre-Michel warmed to his prize of $750 and a 30 Soak Membership.
